Thanks for reporting this issue and help in making Ubuntu better.
I have seen that in the last version of Rhythmbox Control-space is not
stated in the help for this functinality, but Control P is (play/pause).
So this seems to be deprecated and marking as invalid. Please mark the
status back to "new" if you think this is still an issue.
** Changed in: rhythmbox (Ubuntu)

Title:
CTRL+Space does not work to play/pause
Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu:
Invalid
Bug description:
The keyboard shortcut for play/pause is documented in the help system
of rhythmbox 2.99.1 as being CTRL+Spacebar (which is what I'm used
to), but it doesn't work. Playing a song, then hitting CTRL+Space does
not pause it, it just seems to toggle the highlighting of the current
track down in the tracks pane. Can we please restore the behavior of
CTRL+Spacebar?
