Thanks heidar-rafn for reporting this issue and sorry for the long time
without response. Have you checked if this is still a feature of recent
versions of Rhythmbox? You can try the last one with a life CD or USB of
Ubuntu 14.04.

Title:
Unable to have same song played more than once in a playlist
Status in “rhythmbox” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
I am creating a playlist for a tango-dancing event. It is custom to have a
short song "cortina" between every 3rd or 4th song when changing dance style.
I am unable to add the same "cortina" song more than once into each playlist
(which I consider a bug - there is no mention of this in the documentation).
So for a 3 hour event I need to use 18-20 different "cortinas" instead of
perhaps 3-4 repeated some times.
Procedure:
1.Select a song and drag it to the playlist or right click:add to playlist>
The song is added to the playlist.
2.Add some more songs.
3.Repeat step 1 for same song: The song is not appended to the playlist.
This is however easily accomplished in Clementine player. If the
playlist is created in Clementine and saved as .xspf file and loaded
into Rhythmbox, same effect is realized: When a song appears more than
once in the playlist is reached it is skipped from the list except for
its first entry.
Rhythmbox version:2.97-1ubuntu6.1
