Title:
Network Manager should not offer to create a hotspot if the interface
isn't ap capable
Status in “network-manager” package in Ubuntu:
Expired
Bug description:
The Laptop in question uses:
*-network
description: Wireless interface
product: Centrino Ultimate-N 6300
vendor: Intel Corporation
physical id: 0
bus info: pci@0000:03:00.0
logical name: wlan0
version: 3e
serial: 24:77:03:8f:25:f4
width: 64 bits
clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list ethernet physical
wireless
configuration: broadcast=yes driver=iwlwifi
driverversion=3.5.0-45-generic firmware=9.221.4.1 build 25532 ip=192.168.43.231
latency=0 link=yes multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11abgn
resources: irq:46 memory:f2400000-f2401fff
When opening network > wired, click at Use as Hotpsot, it would show
the hotspot's AP name and password, but in about 30 seconds or so, it
disappears, and reconnect to any valid AP, with *NO* error messages at
all.
This is extremely confusing to users, and the app could do something
like iw list to find out the capabilities that the interface has and
only offer it if it is capable.
