did your graphic driver enable audio support ? your Samsung hdmi monitor already provide EDID to the graphic but seem audio is support is not enabled
there are two ways to provide hdmi 1) the iec958 control of spdif of alc663 may block the nvidia HDMI codec 2) http://www.realtek.com/products/productsView.aspx?Langid=1&PFid=37&Level=5&Conn=4&ProdID=165 The ALC663 provides two independent S/PDIF outputs and supports 16/20/24-bit SPDIF output with a sampling rate of up to 192kHz, offering easy connection of PCs to high quality consumer electronic products such as digital decoders and speakers. In addition to the standard (primary) SPDIF output function, the ALC663 features another independent (secondary) SPDIF-OUT output and converters that transport digital audio output to a High Definition Media Interface (HDMI) transmitter (becoming more common in high-end PCs). if you cannot find nvidia HDMI codec Node 0x10 [Audio Output] wcaps 0x611: Stereo Digital Converter: stream=0, channel=0 Digital: Digital category: 0x0 IEC Coding Type: 0x0 PCM: rates [0x5e0]: 44100 48000 88200 96000 192000 bits [0xe]: 16 20 24 formats [0x1]: PCM Power states: D0 D1 D2 D3 Power: setting=D0, actual=D0 Node 0x11 [Pin Complex] wcaps 0x400701: Stereo Digital Pincap 0x00000010: OUT Pin Default 0x411111f0: [N/A] Speaker at Ext Rear Conn = 1/8, Color = Black DefAssociation = 0xf, Sequence = 0x0 Misc = NO_PRESENCE Pin-ctls: 0x40: OUT Power states: D0 D1 D2 D3 Power: setting=D0, actual=D0 Connection: 1 0x10 -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to alsa-driver in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1307937 Title: hdmi option not detected Status in “alsa-driver” package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: further information at http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2216196 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: alsa-base 1.0.25+dfsg-0ubuntu4 Uname: Linux 3.14.0-031400-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu2 Architecture: amd64 AudioDevicesInUse: USER PID ACCESS COMMAND /dev/snd/controlC0: jkj 2165 F.... pulseaudio CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Tue Apr 15 10:59:08 2014 InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-04-04 (10 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Beta amd64 (20140326) PackageArchitecture: all SourcePackage: alsa-driver Symptom: audio Title: PCI/internal sound card not detected UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 11/02/2012 dmi.bios.vendor: American Megatrends Inc. dmi.bios.version: N76VZ.213 dmi.board.asset.tag: ATN12345678901234567 dmi.board.name: N76VZ dmi.board.vendor: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. dmi.board.version: 1.0 dmi.chassis.asset.tag: No Asset Tag dmi.chassis.type: 10 dmi.chassis.vendor: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. dmi.chassis.version: 1.0 dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAmericanMegatrendsInc.:bvrN76VZ.213:bd11/02/2012:svnASUSTeKCOMPUTERINC.:pnN76VZ:pvr1.0:rvnASUSTeKCOMPUTERINC.:rnN76VZ:rvr1.0:cvnASUSTeKCOMPUTERINC.:ct10:cvr1.0: dmi.product.name: N76VZ dmi.product.version: 1.0 dmi.sys.vendor: ASUSTeK COMPUTER INC. mtime.conffile..etc.modprobe.d.alsa.base.conf: 2014-04-15T01:56:57.351893 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/alsa-driver/+bug/1307937/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : desktop-packages@lists.launchpad.net Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
