I to have the same scanner using Ubuntu 12.04 and Elementary OS Luna and
neither of them work. Well they scan but the image is Black.

Bug description:
Simple Scan and other Ubuntu Scanner software is unable to
consistentantly detect the CanoScan N670U. Sometimes it shows up as a
scanner but I have not been able to scan with it.
The scanner worked out of the box in Ubuntu 10:04. There appears to
be some kind of regression.
