Playback Error: Unable to start playback pipeline

Bug description:
Binary package hint: rhythmbox
* Insert audio CD
* track list, album art etc appear correctly
* click "Play" button
* CD spins up
* no audio
* "Playback Error: Unable to start playback pipeline" dialog appears
The same CD played correctly via Rhythmbox about an hour ago, no
software or hardware changes since. I've tried exiting and restarting
Rhythmbox, and reinserting the CD, with identical results.
