Dell Vostro 1000 laptop goes into hibernation whenever I plug in the
power cord as if battery is dead

Status in “devicekit-power” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed
Status in “gnome-power-manager” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
I was using laptop on battery power. When battery got down to 20% I
plugged in the AC charger. Battery monitor then said battery was
critically low and that the computer was hibernating. Then I could not
restart laptop and I had to reboot by holding down the power button
until it turned off then restarted. This happens every time I plug in
  the AC charger
