Title:
gksudo should use policykit backend to allow using with user accounts
not in sudo group
Status in “gksu” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
Binary package hint: gksu
Lots of administrative programs or programs that require root access
for some other reason contain configuration to install a menu entry
with gksudo. However, such menu entries are broken for all user
accounts that are not members of group "admin" because gksudo does not
allow for other authentication methods but user's own password.
Feature request: change gksudo to allow policykit authorization.
Policykit-aware programs are already able to ask for both username and
password in case the currently active user cannot grant the access. It
could even make sense to replace gksudo with a policykit frontend and
forget about making it behave as sudo replacement honoring the
/etc/sudoers file.
