For me it's the same, but only since i updated from Ubuntu 13.10 to 14.04. Usually it appears, when i have more tabs in the browser opened. What i can see, is, that HDD-LED ist very busy. The only thing, what happens is, that mouse moves sometimes a little bit. Other things do not work, nor any keys no STRG+ALT+BACKSPACE no STRG+ALT+Fx Sometimes, but seldom a ALT+F4 in browser works and closes chromium

Seems to be most often associated with flash video but not always (unless there is some flash video playing automatically in a tab I have open somewhere that I don't know about). In some cases, audio will continue, but everything else stops. I can move my mouse, but mouse events trigger no action. My keyboard is ignored. I can't switch to another app or even switch to a non-gui console (ctrl-alt-fn). Even my system monitor application indicator freezes. The only solution seems to be hard power down.
