Raymond, I have the same symptoms as Matt - I'm also using a Medion PC with MSI 7318 mboard, and have had this problem since I installed Ubuntu 13.xx last year. I have just upgraded to Ubuntu 14.04 but the problem has not changed. The VIA VT8237A/VT8251 chip is not recognised by Ubuntu, but still works fine with Windows Vista - dual boot on the same PC. Are you saying by "upstream bug report" that this bug should be addressed to the kernel team instead of the ALSA team, or just filed to kernel bug tracker instead of launchpad? Regards Mike Scott
