Hello Sebastien, Thanks for looking into this. I don't have a xorg.conf but my /etc/default/keyboard was indeed wrong (it is attached below). I've fixed it by copying a pre-upgrade /etc/default/keyboard and have no idea how those layout changes have been put there...
