Here is a screenshot of the desktop right after logging in. You can see part of the extremely tall error pop-up and the display resolution setting.
You can also notice that at this phase the desktop is not completely functional: - The window menus are permanently visible at their normal (non-Unity) place. - Some keyboard shortcuts do not work. (e.g. Super for the Dash or Ctrl+Alt+t for terminal) ** Attachment added: "Screenshot with the error pop-up and the Display settings" https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-settings-daemon/+bug/1320995/+attachment/4116419/+files/ubuntu%2014.04-2014-05-20-07-59-54.png -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to unity-settings-daemon in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1320995 Title: Error message after setting a non-standard display resolution in a virtual machine Status in “unity-settings-daemon” package in Ubuntu: New Bug description: I am running Ubuntu 64b 14.04 in a virtual machine under VMware Workstation 10.0.2. I use the open-vm-tools from the standard Ubuntu repository. The Ubuntu desktop automatically resizes when I resize the Workstation window. Unfortunately when I open System Setting > Displays and store the actual (arbitrary - non-standard) resolution (now for example 1696 x 1074) then after reboot and logging-in unity-settings-daemon shows a pop-up window with an extremely long error message beginning: ------ Could not apply the stored configuration for monitors none of the selected modes were compatible with the possible modes: Trying modes for CRTC 63 CRTC 63: trying mode 800x600@60Hz with output at 1696x1074@60Hz (pass 0) CRTC 63: trying mode 2560x1600@60Hz with output at 1696x1074@60Hz (pass 0) ------ The problem also appears after logout and login if the display resolution changes meanwhile. Another minor bug is that the pop-up window does not have sliders and is several times taller than the screen. An inexperienced user must be hopeless after encountering a similar situation. The whole error message is attached as: unity-settings-daemon- error.txt Versions: ------ ubuntu1404-vm:~$ lsb_release -rd Description: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Release: 14.04 ubuntu1404-vm:~$ apt-cache policy unity-settings-daemon unity-settings-daemon: Installed: 14.04.0+14.04.20140414-0ubuntu1 Candidate: 14.04.0+14.04.20140414-0ubuntu1 Version table: *** 14.04.0+14.04.20140414-0ubuntu1 0 500 http://cz.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ trusty/main amd64 Packages 100 /var/lib/dpkg/status ------ ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: unity-settings-daemon 14.04.0+14.04.20140414-0ubuntu1 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-24.47-generic 3.13.9 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-24-generic x86_64 ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Mon May 19 21:26:13 2014 EcryptfsInUse: Yes ExecutablePath: /usr/lib/unity-settings-daemon/unity-settings-daemon InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-04-28 (21 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140417) SourcePackage: unity-settings-daemon UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/unity-settings-daemon/+bug/1320995/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
