The issue is likely caused by an attempt to remove Evolution from my system (I wouldn't expect the system panel got weed out by removing Evolution though). I faced the same problem on another machine where I removed Evolution from the standard Ubuntu install. This issue can therefore be closed as far as I'm concerned.
