The new version doesn't seems like a valid candidate for a stable update
(https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates) since it adds new
feature, what's the rational for the backport request? Some bugfixes can
be cherrypicked if needed

It has taken many years before this version was released to please
upgrade it for the next release of Ubuntu and preferably as a backport
for Thrusty too.
