I have the latest unit-greeter package installed (14.04.10-0ubuntu1) and have only recently started seeing this bug on my desktop. Clicking on the Settings menu and then in the password field again, solves the problem. I have noticed that my password is typed into whatever program had focus before focus was returned to the password field. This does not necessarily happen on a cold boot, but after suspend. It does not happen on my laptop (also using latest package).
