I'm hitting this in Ubuntu 14.04. The whole OS (not just the image viewer) consistently crashes (freeze) when trying to open one particularly large (24K*20K resolution) jpg image. The file is 16MB in size. Let me know if any resources are needed to debug this. I'm able to reproduce the problem consistently with this image file. I don't see anything particularly alarming in /var/log/syslog at the time of crash.
