Last night I was able to get the xserver to map the buttons for my mouse the way that fixes the problem. What ended up needed to be done was the config file for the mapping needed to be put int he /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d directory.

I applied the following fix for the bug (Bug #615892) that was shown to work on my earlier 12.x install. The problem is that now the computer appears to hang after the initial ubuntu loading screen with the dots underneath the logo after it goes dark. If I remove the file I created to remap the buttons I can use ubuntu again but I still have the button problem as described with other Saitek R.A.T. cyborg mouse users. I tried using xinput --set-button-map command it when I check to see if it changes the button mapping it does not. I am very confused by this. Can anyone help? Thanks.
