My current Ubntu version is Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS. My video card is an AMD/ATI RV710, which displayed at high resolution with Ubuntu 12.04. The Ubuntu 14.04 open-source driver showed options between 640x400 and 1280x1024. I tried the proprietary driver, which set the resolution at 1400x1050 with no other options. I tried to remove the proprietary driver, but rebooting has me stuck at 1400x1050.
