Title:
no GUI with nvdia-304.123 on Lubuntu 14.10 beta1

Status in “nvidia-graphics-drivers” package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  Problem:
After updating the alpha version (which worked OK) to beta version of Lubuntu
14.10 I no longer could get the desktop interface, only a blank screen
appeared after a second of flashing of Lubuntu 14.10 in the centre of the
screen.
My desktop (Acer Aspire T-180 uses a Geoforce 6100 nForce 405 graphic card.
The default nouveau driver does provide a GUI but rapidly results in screen
freeze, as happened with the earlier versions of Lubuntu, and is therefore of
no use.
The older NVIDIA-173 on the list also gives screen freezes.

In another partition on the same device, Lubuntu 14.04 LTS operates
some months already without any flaws with driver nvidia-304.117

From the blank screen after booting on nvidia-304.123 , alt-F2 shows
the option to login in terminal mode and carry out update/upgrade. The
system looks normal except for the absence of the GUI.

  My conclusions:
  (a) the absence of GUI appears to be caused by the driver nvidia-304.123
  (b) none of the recommended video drivers on the list for Lubuntu 14.10 beta
can be used on this Geforce 6100 card.
