We could open a new report upstream, but from what  I understood from
the linked  upstream bug, the developers of Rhythmbox think that the
current behavior is what it should be and they see no reason to change
it. That's why I say it could be asked if they would consider
(re)introducing this feature.

  Rhythmbox no longer subscribes to a url when called with an
  itpc://urlofpodcast link.

  I selected subscribe from tunesviewer, it searched for itpc://url as
  the name of the podcast, instead of subscribing to it.
