I think this bug is related to gvfsd. In the terminal, I tried to go to the mount place for the owncloud share /run/user/... ... ... and issued a ls command. It hung, I hit some key and it listed the directory content. So, I don't think this is related to pantheon-files. I see there have been updates to gvfsd in newer Ubuntu releases but those weren't backported to Trusty so I don't know if this has been fixed.
