Same Problem for me with a hp device, should i open a new bug request?

HP Officejet Pro 8620
ubuntu 14.04
simple scan 3.12.1
hplip 3.15.4
(Ubuntu 14.04 supplies HPLIP 3.14.3 by default, which does not support my
printer. (First supported Version is 3.14.4 -__- ) so i had to upgrade it
manually...)

Works with xsane 0.998 flawlessly
