I will update to the enablement stack. Since it's not something I can reproduce at will, I'll just wait and see if it happens again. It hasn't occurred in perhaps the last two weeks so I'm wondering if an update in the normal list of updates didn't fix it. Thanks!

It happens at seemingly random times and is not related to any one thing I'm doing. I can go to another machine and ssh in and kill X to recover. But X itself is locked up. The only thing that works is the mouse cursor which I can move around at will. But the UI doesn't react or change at all. I can't raise or lower windows, the seconds on my clock applet to increment, the graphs in applets and in gkrellm are frozen. I'm also attaching /var/log/Xorg.0.log, which captures some info about the issue that will hopefully be meaningful. --- ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3.8 Architecture: amd64 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: None CurrentDesktop: XFCE DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: trusty DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 DistroVariant: ubuntu DkmsStatus: bcmwl, 6.30.223.248+bdcom, 3.13.0-49-generic, x86_64: installed EcryptfsInUse: Yes ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation 3rd Gen Core processor Graphics Controller [8086:0166] (rev 09) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:057d] InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-11-11 (159 days ago) InstallationMedia: Xubuntu 14.04.1 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140723) MachineType: Dell Inc.
