Done. Please find attached the terminal output. Incidentally, I made a new install on another partition, this time from the release version of 11.10, and on that I can open a guest session without a problem (just to be clear, the terminal output is from the old install).

At first I thought it was due to the apparmor profile for the guest session, since it throws up a lot of denied entries, but even after putting that profile in complain mode, the issue persists.
