Still here in 15.04 !!! The problem is very sensible in the case of USB keys:
When the key inserted is not the right one, the link to the USB file appears as broken and the default action is "delete the link" which is rather misleading. At least "broken link" should have a special icon. -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to nautilus in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/411242 Title: Links to folders on unmounted partitions pretend they are broken Status in One Hundred Papercuts: Confirmed Status in Nautilus: New Status in nautilus package in Ubuntu: Triaged Bug description: Binary package hint: nautilus Links to folders on unmounted partitions pretend they are broken instead of mounting the partition. Steps to reproduce: Mount a partition[1], create a link on the Desktop pointing to a folder on that partition, unmount the partition. Then try to open the link on the Desktop - it will tell you it is a broken link. Opening the link should mount the partition if it is not already mounted. [1] I have tested only with NTFS partitions and an up-to-date Ubuntu Jaunty.
