We have this problem with Ubuntu 14.04. It happens when the network connection is lost or after a period of inactivity. Anyone found a workaround yet?

As soon as the network share is unavailable thereafter, the whole gnome desktop freezes for about 30' from time to time. Until the user logs out or the gfs-mount is unmounted manually (which in case can't be done until the freeze period is over). It would be nice if the gvfs-unmount would happen automatically after some timeout witout traffic and/or when all network interfaces (LAN/WLAN) are down.
