Gedit slow to save text files

Bug description:
Gedit takes several seconds to save a simple text file. I would expect
the save to be executed almost instantaneously, since it's a process
that requires next to no computational work, and disk writes of a few
kB shouldn't take more than a few milliseconds. The lag creates
problems when iterating and rerunning code, such as a python script,
quickly.
