jason, thank you for reporting this and helping make Ubuntu better. As per http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product- support/product/alienware-14/drivers/advanced an update to your computer's buggy and outdated BIOS is available (A09). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?
If it doesn't, could you please both specify what happened, and provide the output of the following terminal command: sudo dmidecode -s bios-version && sudo dmidecode -s bios-release-date For more on BIOS updates and linux, please see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs#Bug_reporting_etiquette . Please note your current BIOS is already in the Bug Description, so posting this on the old BIOS would not be helpful. As well, you don't have to create a new bug report. Once the BIOS is updated, if the problem is still reproducible, and the information above is provided, then please mark this report Status New. Otherwise, please mark this as Invalid. Thank you for your understanding. ** Tags added: bios-outdated-a09 ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Low ** Changed in: xorg (Ubuntu) Status: New => Incomplete -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xorg in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1502482 Title: crashing Status in xorg package in Ubuntu: Incomplete Bug description: keep crash apps keep foreclosing graphic issue ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.04 Package: xorg 1:7.7+7ubuntu4 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.19.0-30.33-generic 3.19.8-ckt6 Uname: Linux 3.19.0-30-generic i686 .tmp.unity.support.test.0: ApportVersion: 2.17.2-0ubuntu1.5 Architecture: i386 CompizPlugins: No value set for `/apps/compiz-1/general/screen0/options/active_plugins' CompositorRunning: compiz CompositorUnredirectDriverBlacklist: '(nouveau|Intel).*Mesa 8.0' CompositorUnredirectFSW: true Date: Sat Oct 3 14:29:28 2015 DistUpgraded: Fresh install DistroCodename: vivid DistroVariant: ubuntu ExtraDebuggingInterest: Yes, including running git bisection searches GraphicsCard: Intel Corporation 4th Gen Core Processor Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:0416] (rev 06) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:05a9] NVIDIA Corporation GK107M [GeForce GT 750M] [10de:0fe4] (rev a1) (prog-if 00 [VGA controller]) Subsystem: Dell Device [1028:05a9] MachineType: Alienware Alienware 14 ProcEnviron: LANGUAGE=en_US PATH=(custom, no user) LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SHELL=/bin/bash ProcKernelCmdLine: BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/vmlinuz-3.19.0-30-generic root=UUID=0879a354-8ef8-4dfa-ba43-ca62985b2745 ro drm.debug=0xe plymouth:debug SourcePackage: xorg UdevLog: Error: [Errno 2] No such file or directory: '/var/log/udev' UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) dmi.bios.date: 08/12/2013 dmi.bios.vendor: Alienware dmi.bios.version: A04 dmi.board.name: 07MJ2Y dmi.board.vendor: Alienware dmi.board.version: A01 dmi.chassis.type: 8 dmi.chassis.vendor: Alienware dmi.chassis.version: A04 dmi.modalias: dmi:bvnAlienware:bvrA04:bd08/12/2013:svnAlienware:pnAlienware14:pvrA04:rvnAlienware:rn07MJ2Y:rvrA01:cvnAlienware:ct8:cvrA04: dmi.product.name: Alienware 14 dmi.product.version: A04 dmi.sys.vendor: Alienware version.compiz: compiz 1:0.9.12.1+15.04.20150922-0ubuntu1 version.libdrm2: libdrm2 2.4.60-2 version.libgl1-mesa-dri: libgl1-mesa-dri 10.5.9-2ubuntu1~vivid2 version.libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental: libgl1-mesa-dri-experimental N/A version.libgl1-mesa-glx: libgl1-mesa-glx 10.5.9-2ubuntu1~vivid2 version.xserver-xorg-core: xserver-xorg-core 2:1.17.1-0ubuntu3.1 version.xserver-xorg-input-evdev: xserver-xorg-input-evdev 1:2.9.0-1ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-ati: xserver-xorg-video-ati 1:7.5.0-1ubuntu2 version.xserver-xorg-video-intel: xserver-xorg-video-intel 2:2.99.917-1~exp1ubuntu2.2 version.xserver-xorg-video-nouveau: xserver-xorg-video-nouveau 1:1.0.11-1ubuntu2build1 xserver.bootTime: Sat Oct 3 13:38:31 2015 xserver.configfile: default xserver.errors: Failed to load module "nvidia" (module does not exist, 0) Failed to load module "nvidia" (module does not exist, 0) NOUVEAU(G0): Failed to initialise context object: 2D_NVC0 (0) NOUVEAU(G0): Error initialising acceleration.
