This issue still exists in Xubuntu 11.10 (and presumably Ubuntu 11.10). Unfortunately, gizmod is no longer an easy solution because it was dropped from the Ubuntu 11.10 repositories due to the fact that it no longer compiles out of the box with the latest version of the Boost libraries.
