I managed to reproduce the behaviour Volodya has reported both in Ubuntu
11.10 and Ubuntu 10.10. This is not just relating to FTP but also
happens with removable devices and Windows shares.

Title:
Mounting an external server (FTP) opens a new nautilus window

Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: nautilus

  To reproduce:
Disable opening the media on mount in the nautilus settings.
  Mount an external FTP server

  What happens:
A new nautilus window opens displaying that server

  What i expect to happen:
Nautilus should mount the external server, but only open a new window if one
would have opened on the media mount.

  Nautilus 2.32.0
  Ubuntu 10.10
