pls link opened but not played by Rhytmbox

Bug description:
When opening a pls link like
http://yp.shoutcast.com/sbin/tunein-station.pls?id=2157097 rhythmbox opens but
does not play the link.
Since it has been reported over 9 years ago here:
https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/rhythmbox/+bug/62430
and no fix is issued, I refiled it with ubuntu-bug.
This happens on 14.04 LTS, 15.04 and probably all others too.
There are some suggestions for a fix in the old report.
