As per http://www.mytoshiba.com.au/support/computers/portege/r700 /pt310a-07f011/download an update to your computer's buggy, insecure, and outdated BIOS is available (2.20). If you update to this following https://help.ubuntu.com/community/BIOSUpdate does it change anything?
