I still have this problem on Ubuntu 15.10. Note that this version does not contain the xserver-xorg-video-sis anymore, but it does contain the sisfb module.
Now the vesafb driver is loaded now, but it does not seem to be a module. I tried to use the instructions from this thread to load sisfb instead plus updating the initramfs files, but it didn't work: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1423381 I think that the in-kernel vesafb prevents sisfb from loading or it's not properly added to the initramfs. Should I reopen this bug or create a new one? -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to xserver-xorg-video-sis in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/290727 Title: sisfb is not automatically loaded with a SiS display adapter Status in xserver-xorg-video-sis package in Ubuntu: Expired Bug description: Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-sis I have the following display adapter (as output by sudo lspci -v) 01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: Silicon Integrated Systems [SiS] 661/741/760 PCI/AGP or 662/761Gx PCIE VGA Display Adapter Subsystem: Rioworks Device 2038 Flags: 66MHz, medium devsel, IRQ 10 BIST result: 00 Memory at d0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable) [size=128M] Memory at df6e0000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=128K] I/O ports at bc00 [size=128] Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 2 Capabilities: [50] AGP version 3.0 Kernel driver in use: sisfb Kernel modules: sisfb After updating from Hardy to Intrepid (on 10-28-08) the xserver was plagued with display errors (see this forum post for pictures: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=961964 ). It appears that the sisfb module was not being loaded automatically. Adding sisfb to /etc/modules appears to fix the problem. -- :: lsb_release -rd :: Description: Ubuntu 8.10 Release: 8.10 To manage notifications about this bug go to: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/xserver-xorg-video-sis/+bug/290727/+subscriptions -- Mailing list: https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages Post to : [email protected] Unsubscribe : https://launchpad.net/~desktop-packages More help : https://help.launchpad.net/ListHelp
