Upstart is not deprecated and is still in use as the session manager in
Ubuntu even with systemd in use as the init manager. Systemd does not
offer equivalent functionality and there are not plands to add them..
If you remove critical desktop components, you break your system and it
is not a bug.

Bug description:
Unity greeter depends on upstart, ubuntu-desktop depends on unity-
greeter, and unity depends on unity-greeter. Upstart causes all sorts
of issues in a modern system that is running systemd, search the bug
tracker for " Could not connect to Upstart: Failed to connect to
socket /com/ubuntu/upstart: Connection refused" Because of this
dependency when I try and purge upstart to make my system actually
login (.xsession-errors shows a call to upstart-udev-bridge which
fails) I have to switch to a completely different desktop environment.
Upstart is deprecated and should be removed from dependencies as fast
as humanly possible so we can all forget that chapter in linux
development.
