I'm also having problems with ubuntu 16.04 and nvidia driver 361.42 in a dual graphics laptop.
In my case it installs without problems but after a while the screen freezes and after power off/ power on I cannot never more use nvidia graphics card. The login screen resets after enter the password. The dmesg output says: [ 2.215329] NVRM: GPU at 0000:03:00.0 has fallen off the bus. [ 2.215382] NVRM: A GPU crash dump has been created.
