Mode setting might not be as stuck as I thought.

If LLVMpipe can be directed to render to an arbitrary bitmap then we
could simply write a Mir graphics driver for fbdev and bind LLVMpipe to
it.

  As always, it's a critical requirement for Ubuntu to be able to render
