Yeah especially when developers done want to fix issues. I have recommended
a lot of people go to mint. It's stabler and dev's actually care about the
users. Hopefully, the comments/tone Stephen Webb used aren't reflective of
the whole attitude of the Ubuntu dev's. I have to believe they understand
doing what's best for the user.

Title:
Unity greeter depends on defunct upstart - Unable to login.

Status in unity-greeter package in Ubuntu:
  Confirmed

Bug description:
Unity greeter depends on upstart, ubuntu-desktop depends on unity-
greeter, and unity depends on unity-greeter. Upstart causes all sorts
of issues in a modern system that is running systemd, search the bug
tracker for " Could not connect to Upstart: Failed to connect to
socket /com/ubuntu/upstart: Connection refused" Because of this
dependency when I try and purge upstart to make my system actually
login (.xsession-errors shows a call to upstart-udev-bridge which
fails) I have to switch to a completely different desktop environment.
Upstart is deprecated and should be removed from dependencies as fast
as humanly possible so we can all forget that chapter in linux
  development.

  .xsession-errors
openConnection: connect: No such file or directory
cannot connect to brltty at :0
upstart: Failed to spawn upstart-udev-bridge main process: unable to execute:
No such file or directory
  upstart: unity-gtk-module pre-start process (3892) terminated with status 127
upstart: dbus pre-start process (3900) terminated with status 127

  ProblemType: Bug
  DistroRelease: Ubuntu 15.10
  Package: unity-greeter 15.10.1-0ubuntu1

  ApportVersion: 2.19.1-0ubuntu5
  Architecture: amd64
  Date: Sun Jan 24 20:29:16 2016
InstallationDate: Installed on 2015-05-10 (260 days ago)
  InstallationMedia: Ubuntu-Server 15.04 "Vivid Vervet" - Release amd64
(20150422)
