Software updater says I have everything up-to-date.

Here is my current list of network-manager packages:

dpkg --list | grep network-manager
ii network-manager 1.1.93-0ubuntu4
amd64 network management framework (daemon and
userspace tools)
ii network-manager-gnome 1.2.0-0ubuntu0.16.04.1
amd64 network management framework (GNOME frontend)
ii network-manager-pptp 1.1.93-1ubuntu1
amd64 network management framework (PPTP plugin
core)
ii network-manager-pptp-gnome 1.1.93-1ubuntu1
amd64 network management framework (PPTP plugin
GNOME GUI)

Anyway, I already did a couple of updates since I posted this bug. And
I'm not experiencing the problem right now. Even before, the problem was
frequent but not constant. I'm monitoring the situation to see if it's
already solved by those updates.

Title:
nm-applet not showing existing wifi connection

Status in network-manager-applet package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
Frequently, not always, the wifi connection and the existing wifi
networks don't show up on nm-applet. Still, the default network
connection is established in the background. But nm-applet does not
  allow connection management.

In the picture: nm-applet shows no connections/netowrks but in the
connection information dialog you can confirm that the wifi connection
  was established
