This bug is still present on my acer aspire 7740G in spite of the last upgrade to 11.10 (Oneiric 64 bits) ; as soon as libreoffice has been launched once, 3 processes related to this application are present (waiting) ; I can shutdown the system through the GUI only if I kill the most recent of those processes which runs soffice.bin.
I applied the patch proposed by panticz.de (modified by ToniTC for libreoffice), but I had to change manually the value of DocumentStoreUIEnabled, probably because the long line in which it appears is not the 5th one any longer. The sleeping processes are still present, but now I can shutdown my machine normally. In brief, the bug is still here but the workaround works !
