I can confirm that apt version thunderbird 1:49.0~b1+build1-0ubuntu0.14.04.2 has corrected the problem on - RELEASE=17.3 CODENAME=rosa EDITION="Xfce 64-bit" DESCRIPTION="Linux Mint 17.3 Rosa" DESKTOP=Xfce TOOLKIT=GTK NEW_FEATURES_URL=http://www.linuxmint.com/rel_rosa_xfce_whatsnew.php RELEASE_NOTES_URL=http://www.linuxmint.com/rel_rosa_xfce.php USER_GUIDE_URL=help:linuxmint GRUB_TITLE=Linux Mint 17.3 Xfce 64-bit The update also disabled the Lightening 4.7 (FYI only). sudo apt-get update to install the updated thunderbird version
