Title:
random letters don't display after resume from sleep

Status in xserver-xorg-video-intel package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
When I resume from a long suspend in Xenial, I find that most of the
letters do not display. I can copy and paste them into chat windows
and people see them on the other side, but they do not show up
visibly. The menu items for suspend/shut down/log out usually vanish
as well, which makes it hard to find a good solution.

I find that killing my session manager restarts X and everything goes
back to normal on next login.
