Public bug reported:

The following command fails under Unity 7:

$ xdg-open appstream:org.gnome.gedit.desktop

gvfs-open: appstream:org.gnome.gedit.desktop: error opening location:
The specified location is not supported

The URI works if you uninstall ubuntu-software.

Perhaps gvfs doesn't know how to handle .desktops in
/usr/share/ubuntu/applications/ ?
