Thank you for your bug report, the purpose of -common packages is to
ship files that are identic on different architectures (sparing mirror
space since that way they are in 1 common archive rather than included 1
time for each build) ... what's your issue with having that -common
installed?

  gnome-session-properties icons and .desktop file should be moved to
  gnome-session-bin

Status in gnome-session package in Ubuntu:
  New

Bug description:
  gnome-session-bin package includes gnome-session-properties binary.
  However, gnome-session-properties's .desktop file and icons are all in 
gnome-session-common, which is the only reason I have gnome-session-common 
installed in my system.

  So I think those files should be restructured differently, possibly,
  moved to gnome-session-bin package.
