This looks specific to the GTK3 integration plugin. Uninstalling libreoffice-gtk3 and installing libreoffice-gtk2 fixes the issue.

This does not work. xclip says that the word is copied correctly (both text/plain and text/html targets are present). Pasting into the same window does work. Pasting into the other window with Right click → Paste Special → Unformatted Text also does work. Starting LibreOffice with LC_ALL=en_US.UTF-8 also helps.
