@skgary, yes, within 16.10 package versions are different. You have:
(1) Either `sudo apt-get install nvidia-304=304.134-0ubuntu0.16.10.1` (or just `sudo apt-get install nvidia-304` as it's currently newest version available to you) to install the newest version (134). (2) Or try manually installing version `131-0ubuntu3` dedicated for 16.04 (not your 16.10) using `dpkg`. Not sure if it's good idea: (a) whether it'll install at all (missing dependencies?); (b) whether it'll work ok. Old (131) version packages may be located in your `/var/cache/apt/archives` directory (they may remain there since were used before upgrade); if no, they can be downloaded here: http://archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/restricted/n/nvidia-graphics- drivers-304/.
