You have been subscribed to a public bug:
Using lightdm on 11.10, I find that either I am confused by the behavior of
gksu and menus or there is a bug somewhere.
Here's an example...
>From a terminal,
$ gksu -u someotheruser firefox
Tools/Addons, download and insert 'foxyproxy standard'.
Exit firefox
$ gksu -u someotheruser firefox
The Tools menu now contains sub-menu 'FoxyProxy Standard' as expected.
Leave it running &, from another terminal,
$ firefox
Tools menu shows the FoxyProxy submenu, even though it is not installed for
this user.
Exit both firefox apps.
$ firefox
Tools menu nolonger has FoxyProxy (as it should not).
$ gksu -u someotheruser firefox
Tools menu nolonger has FoxyProxy (it should).
This occurs when running lightdm.
Due to a different bug (Bug #866083) I was forced to move back to gdm.
In gdm, this behavoir is not seen and gksu/menus behave as expected.
Looks like a lightdm bug to me.
