Viktor Schuppan, thank you for taking the time to report this bug and helping to make Ubuntu better. However, I am closing it because the bug has been fixed in the latest development version of Ubuntu.
This is a significant bug in Ubuntu. If you need a fix for the bug in previous versions of Ubuntu, please perform as much as possible of the SRU Procedure [1] to bring the need to a developer's attention. [1]: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StableReleaseUpdates#Procedure ** Description changed: My Canon PIXMA MG6150 is not recognized by sane (scanimage -L finds no scanner). - There is a typo in line 1635 of the file backend/pixma_mp150.c. The - occurrence of MG6200 in that line must be replaced with MG6100. After - fixing that typo and rebuilding and reinstalling the package the device - works. + WORKAROUND: There is a typo in line 1635 of the file backend/pixma_mp150.c which has: + DEVICE ("Canon PIXMA MG6100", "MG6200", MG6100_PID, 2400, 0, 0, 638, 877, PIXMA_CAP_CIS), - The bug has already been fixed upstream in sane release 1.0.24. I don't - know Ubuntu's policy on providing a fix in such case but having that - report available in launchpad with the solution above may help others to - fix it for themselves. + It should have: + DEVICE ("Canon PIXMA MG6100", "MG6100", MG6100_PID, 2400, 0, 0, 638, 877, PIXMA_CAP_CIS), + + After fixing that typo and rebuilding and reinstalling the package the + device works. + + The bug has already been fixed upstream via commit: + https://anonscm.debian.org/cgit/sane/sane-backends.git/commit/?id=f14ff15bdcbd72db49f84d33c545a9ffc26ddbe1 ProblemType: Bug DistroRelease: Ubuntu 14.04 Package: libsane 1.0.23-3ubuntu3 ProcVersionSignature: Ubuntu 3.13.0-24.47-generic 3.13.9 Uname: Linux 3.13.0-24-generic x86_64 NonfreeKernelModules: nvidia ApportVersion: 2.14.1-0ubuntu3 Architecture: amd64 CurrentDesktop: Unity Date: Sun May 11 11:30:15 2014 InstallationDate: Installed on 2014-05-01 (9 days ago) InstallationMedia: Ubuntu 14.04 LTS "Trusty Tahr" - Release amd64 (20140417) SourcePackage: sane-backends UpgradeStatus: No upgrade log present (probably fresh install) modified.conffile..etc.sane.d.dll.conf: [modified] mtime.conffile..etc.sane.d.dll.conf: 2014-05-11T10:33:00.667395 ** Tags removed: patch ** Tags added: cherry-pick ** Changed in: sane-backends (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided => Medium ** Changed in: sane-backends (Ubuntu) Status: New => Fix Released -- You received this bug notification because you are a member of Desktop Packages, which is subscribed to sane-backends in Ubuntu. https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/1318309 Title: Canon PIXMA MG6100 series not recognized Status in sane-backends package in Ubuntu: Fix Released Bug description: My Canon PIXMA MG6150 is not recognized by sane (scanimage -L finds no scanner).
