To save it permanently (i.e. not in ~/.evolition/...) I selected the "save as ..." menu entry. In the dialog I changed the name and and created and selected a subdirectory of my home directory. After pressing the "Save" button I was asked whether I wanted to keep the .doc format or save in .odf format. After choosing the .odf option (i.e. I changed the format from .doc to .odf), all the selections that I had done before (file name, directory) were lost. So pressing the "Save" button once again leads to storing the file in the original temporary location (~/.evolution/...). When I did this the first time I just wondered that the directory was empty after I thought I had stored the file there ... An easy way to loose hours of work ....
