I've just started to experience this issue. Tried uninstalling, purging,
reinstalling, no luck.

I didn't have it before, but then one day it started doing it and now I
can't use it anymore :-(

Title:
Rhythmbox eats a HUGE amount of memory on Ubuntu 10.04 LTS (even if no
  music is running)

Status in rhythmbox package in Ubuntu:
  Expired

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: rhythmbox

  Expected behaviour:
Starting the program, it should open up and should consume a reasonable low
amount of RAM ( < 100 MB).

  Actual behaviour
Starting the program, it opens up slowly and consumes a HUGE amount of RAM (
> 1000 MB). It does not seem right to me, that a music player consumes such an
amount of memory.
