I dis some rearch in the upstream bug tracker and came upon "Better
warning and error messages.", which seems to fix this bug. It makes
inaccessible folders appear in red and their parent folders appear in
orange. So this bug seems to be fixed in xenial, although I never
noticed the connection between the colors and the error message.

Title:
give a way to disclose more information about inaccessible folders

Status in baobab:
  Unknown
Status in baobab package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
it's good to see bug 162159 fixed in the most recent versions,
informing the user if some folders are inaccessible. It would be even
better if (for example by clicking on that notification) a list of the
inaccessible folders was presented for inspection.
